Freya's Involvement in Today's Culture (Post 3)

Freya, along with a number of other Norse deities, have appeared in a variety of cultural aspects today.

Freya has become most well known for her role in the popular Canadian TV show, Vikings. While she is not a protagonist on the show, the characters often pray to several of the Norse Gods and Goddesses.

She has also appeared in books and comics such as the Japanese manga series,  History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, where she plays the role of one of the eight fists, and the novel Eight Days of Luke by Diana Wynne.  This allegory centers mainly around the main Norse gods such as Loki, Thor, Odin, Frey, and Freya.

A third example of her cultural involvement is the famous painting “Freyja and the Necklace” by James Doyle Penrose in 1890.  It depicts one of the preeminent goddesses in Norse mythology standing in Midgard with the Brisingamen around her neck.
